INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
  •     Wash both scar and hands per cleaning instructions.
  •     Open the non-sterile pouch containing the Epi-Derm Silicone Gel Sheet.
  •     Remove the gel sheeting from the plastic substrate liner(s) prior to use.
  •     Epi-Derm may be cut into smaller pieces using scissors or a scalpel. Once you have determined the appropriate size of sheeting to use, apply tacky side to the scar. The gel sheeting should fully cover the scar and extend ¼ inch all the way around the scar border.
  •     If the product is worn during sleep, it should be secured. Use of medical tape (Epi-Tape) or other means is recommended to keep the sheet from falling off.


CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Remove the Epi-Derm every 12 hours to wash both the scar and the gel sheet using SilqueClenz™. In a basin of warm water, work up a small amount of lather with the soap.

Gently wash the piece of gel sheeting in the soapy water, rinse, and then air dry. Make sure the sheeting is completely dry before re-applying to the scar. After washing, rinsing and drying the scar site re-apply the piece of gel sheeting.

WEARING TIME

Optimal wearing time for Epi-Derm Silicone Gel Sheeting is 24 hours per day. If it is not possible to wear the gel sheet for the recommended 24 hour period, a minimum of 12 hours per day is required, washing per the instructions above once in that period.

Follow this procedure each day, washing and re-applying the gel sheeting to the scar for 1 to 2 weeks. At that time the piece of gel sheeting will begin to lose its adhesive quality and/or may become embedded with surface dirt. When this occurs, discard the piece of gel sheeting and apply a new piece.

The overall optimal period of use is usually 8 to 12 weeks.

FAQ:

Is Epi-Derm self-adhesive?

Unlike many other scar products, Epi-Derm is self-adhesive, but you may need to apply Epi-Tape or Epi-Net on certain areas of the body.

How long do I use Epi-Derm for?

Epi-Derm, Pro-Sil, and Xeragel must be applied for a minimum of 12 hours per day for 8-12 weeks.

What is the difference between your product and others?

Unlike many over the counter scar reduction products, Epi-Derm, Pro-Sil and Xeragel are made of medical grade silicone. Because of the quality and high standards of all Biodermis family of products, it is sold directly to hospitals, burn centers, plastic surgeons, dermatologists and other specialists.

How effective is Epi-Derm on older scars?

Clinical studies have shown the newer the scar, the better the results. One such study found a success rate of scar reduction up to 85% on scars under 1 year old, and a rate of about 65% for scars over 10 years old.

With Epi-Derm gel sheets do I also need Pro-Sil or Xeragel?

Pro-Sil and Xeragel are frequently used during the day on exposed scars (facial, hands, elbows, etc.). For 24 hour a day usage, many patients prefer Epi-Derm scar silicone sheets at night when they are at home or sleeping, because a single sheet will last all night.

Will Epi-Derm completely eliminate my scar?

Probably not, nor will any product. Ideal scar management results in a minimizing of the height, thickness and/or discoloration of the scar, thus helping flatten, smooth and blend the scar with the surrounding skin, making it far less noticeable.

Are there any complications?

Rarely. However, as with any topical device applied directly to the skin, there is always potential for contact dermatitis (rash). If this occurs, discontinue use of Epi-Derm.

Is it safe?

Yes. Each product has received U.S. FDA clearance and European C.E. mark and is comprised of safe, non-toxic, non-medicated, semi-occlusive silicone gel.

Can I cut the Epi-Derm sheet?

Yes, Epi-Derm scar silicone sheets may be cut into smaller pieces using clean scissors or a knife. The piece of gel sheeting should fully cover the scar and extend 1/4 inch all the way around the scar border.

How is Epi-Derm different from other silicone sheets?

Can I use Epi-Derm in conjunction with other products?

How should I store the unused Epi-Derm?

Biodermis recommends that you store it in its original packaging at room temperature.

How soon can I start using Epi-Derm?

Epi-Derm can be applied after the sutures have been removed, and the scab is no longer present.

Can Epi-Derm be used on children?

Yes, it is safe and non-toxic and can be used on children.

Which side should I apply to the scar?

Always apply the sticky side of the silicone sheets to the scar.

Should I remove the sheeting when I shower, workout or swim?

Yes, it is recommended to remove silicone sheeting for scars when you shower, workout or swim due to the excessive moisture. However, it does not harm the product or your scar.

Can Epi-Derm be used on facial scars?

Yes, Epi-Derm silicone strips work great on facial scars. Frequently, patients choose to use Pro-Sil or Xeragel on facial scars during the day because these products are less noticable, then use Epi-Derm scar silicone sheets at night.

How long will gel sheeting last?

Once gel sheeting has been applied to the scar site, it can be used for 1-2 weeks. When it begins to lose its adhesive qualities, or when surface dirt becomes difficult to remove with proper daily washing, it is time to replace the sheet.
Unused product, whether opened, or unopened, will last for years when stored properly.

What are keloids and can Epi-Derm help prevent them?

Keloids are the aftereffect of an overgrowth of dense fibrous tissue that usually develops after healing of a skin injury. When a scar is formed, connective tissues or fibers are formed at the site to hold the wound closed.

Keloids form when the cells continue to multiply after the wound is filled in. Symptoms may include pigmentation of the skin, discomfort, or an itchy or painful sensation.

Scar treatment therapy options include silicone sheets for keloids, and pressure treatment. Keloids may often be prevented by using a pressure dressing like Epi-Net in conjunction with silicone scar strips over the injury site 24 hours each day.

This treatment is most effective after healing of the wound or injury, usually within a month.

Delivery Information

Order Dispatch:
Our packing team takes great pride in sending out orders quickly and efficiently. Dispatch time frames vary depending on the shipping option you have chosen (please see above section for details). 'Dispatched' is basically another word for 'posted' or 'shipped' and means that your parcel has left our warehouse. We don't use the word 'posted' simply because we don't actually post parcels in a mailbox...instead we give them to the delivery carriers who come to us! You will receive an order update email from us on the date of dispatch, advising you that your order has been shipped by us today. This will include the name of the delivery carrier, the parcel tracking number and a link on how to track your order.

Delivery Time:
Delivery time (after dispatch) is the time it takes the delivery carrier to deliver your parcel once we have given it to them. This is also known as 'delivery transit time' and are the estimates provided by our delivery carriers. The vast majority of parcels are delivered within their stated time guides. Please note Nursing Angel is unable to accept responsibility or provide compensation for delivery carrier delays or errors.

Delivery Address:
We use Australia Post and couriers to deliver Australian orders. A street address is required for courier deliveries and we may request this if one has not been provided at checkout. For cities, towns and metro areas please use a street address. For regional and remote areas which are obviously not serviced by couriers, a post office box address is fine to use. Double check that the shipping address you have provided is correct (particularly the postcode, so easy to make a typo when ordering at midnight!) to minimise any potential delivery delays and to avoid parcels being returned to us as undeliverable.

Delivery Tracking:
We will email your parcel tracking number on the date of dispatch, together with a link on how to track your order. If your parcel has not arrived as expected, please refer to this email and link for full information. If you have deleted this email, please contact us to have it re-sent to you. The most common reason for parcels not arriving as expected is due to misplaced or lost delivery calling cards (the parcel is usually awaiting collection at the post office or with the courier depot waiting for your phone call to arrange re-delivery). If you are still unable to locate your parcel after following the instructions in the tracking link, please contact us for assistance at least one day after the full delivery time estimate has elapsed.

If Not Home For Delivery:
Parcels are either signed for, left for "safe drop" on the premises at the drivers discretion or a card is left by the driver with next step instructions.

Delivery Instructions & Authority To Leave:
If you have any delivery instructions or wish to give Authority To Leave your parcel if not home, please write clear details in the order notes area at checkout. Your instructions will then be passed onto the delivery carrier. Default instructions for Australia Post and Fastway Couriers are Authority to Leave.

Free Shipping Promotions:
Occasionally we have free shipping promotions or offers. We do not offer Free Shipping to WA, SA, NT or TAS at this time. If your order qualifies for free shipping, this option will appear at checkout. Please select the Free Shipping option and no postage cost will be charged. Free Shipping promotions is not applicable to orders under $50. We are unable to change to free shipping if this option is not selected at checkout. In the event an item from an order that received free shipping is returned for store credit, the Standard Delivery shipping cost is automatically deducted from the store credit amount.

We do not offer Free Shipping for Baby Formula or Food.

Return To Sender Parcels:
If a parcel is returned to us as un-deliverable - whether due to incorrect address details, non-response to delivery calling cards or failure to track parcels etc - an additional shipping and handling fee of $10 applies plus additional shipping fees to have it re-sent.

We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund.If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied original method of payment.
