If you feel discomfort when pumping (even on low suction) or pump less milk than you think you should, you may need a larger breast flange. This will make a world of difference with pumping!
An easy way to test is to cover your nipple with a ten cent piece (roughly 22mm). If your nipple size (at rest) is not fully covered by the coin you will need a larger flange size. Research has found that nearly one-third or more of mums pump more comfortably and effectively with a larger flange.
The flanges are compatible with Ameda breast pumps and each kit includes two custom flanges and two inserts. A standard flange is only 25mm in width but the custom flange accommodates for 28.5mm and 30.5mm.
